Kurt finished his championship with multiple group placements. He also finished his Companion Dog title in obedience. He completed his first trial with a very respectable score and then failed the next two trials by leaving the ring, the first time to check out a candy wrapper and the second time to stick his nose in someone's bag checking for treats. That is Kurt's way! He is a big goof who likes to cuddle, but he is all dachshund and goes his own way when the urge strikes him! Kurt has a very nice harsh coat in a deep red colour, good angulation and he moves well. He is very well behaved with other dogs and friendly with people once he has been introduced. |

Kurt won an obedience rosette as big as he is at the AKC shows in Calgary in August, 2001. The rosette, sponsored by the Prairie Dachshund Club, was for High Scoring Dachshund in Trial. Honesty compels me to mention that he was the only dachshund in the trial! After this nice win, Kurt had a number of dachshund moments that resulted in failing a different exercise at each trial until August, 2002 when we finally completed his Companion Dog title, again at the AKC shows in Calgary. |

The happy moment when the judge awarded Kurt his qualifying score and new Companion Dog title. Kurt was third out of ten competitors. In August of 2002, Kurt and I participated in a tracking seminar. Dressed in his borrowed hot pink tracking harness, Kurt learned to follow a trail that was laid at first by me, then a stranger, to gain his ultimate reward of a rubber chicken leg. |

Kurt triumphantly carried the chicken leg back to the gallery. We enjoyed our tracking experience so much that I bought Kurt a tracking harness in a more manly dark blue. |
